Speaking more than one language -summer school-

Hi, guys. Today, I would like to talk about topic which Mr. Malvern gave us, "What are the advantages and the difficulties or disadvantage of speaking more than one language? And if you were parents, would you make your son or daughter learn another language? Why or why not?" That sound very long topic. But I'm in the international school, and if I speak English perfectly in the near future, then I can speak 3 languages. So this topic does relate to me very much.













First, if you think what is the advantages of speaking more than on language, then obviously people might think, that will be helpful in the future. Because now, social is going forward to "Global", and people speak with foreigner in foreign languages. If you can't speak more than one language, you will feel really hard to speak with foreigner, and feel shame. Also, now it doesn't matter which countries, many companies is doing personal recruitment who can speak foreign language in order to make one's company going to global society. If you have dream to get into a good company, then you must to speak more than one language, because there are many people from many countries are gathering together and you must to communicate with them.




I couldn't think disadvantage of speaking more than one language because it is really helpful for all people who are living in this world. But if you think difficulty of it, then I could figure out what is that. If you learn second language after you speak first language perfectly, then you might feel stress on second language. Because each languages has different rule of grammar, different vocabulary, and different way to conversation. For example if English speaker say "No way!" to Japanese speaker who can't speak English, then they might confuse at what does "No way" mean. They might think that as "There is no way to avoid that.", but actually English speaker use it as sort of  "What the heck?!" or "Is it true, are you sure?". So, as you know, many people who learn second language might think difficulty to learn about that.




If I were parent I absolutely make my children learn another language. If I were live in America or English speak country with my wife and children, I make them learn Japanese and Chinese. Three countries, America (English speak country), Japan, China is most improving their economic and GDP, so if you master those three languages, you will not bother in the future. In America, many rich Chinese men is isolating there, and if you speak Chinese, you will find many big opportunities to be a success man. That's why I make my children to learn Chinese. Reason I let my children learn Japanese is now Japanese government is starting to immigration from foreign language, so if you can speak Japanese in America, you might learn different culture, and it is very good for your experience. Also to learn Japanese culture is very good, because Japanese has very awesome culture, such as Chadou (tea), Kendou (sword), and hospitality. You might learn many good things from those wonderful cultures.



As I said in the second paragraph, to learn other language is hard for most people. Some people might don't want to receive other culture or languages, because they already got to familiar with their owns. But if you try hard, then you will absolutely be a success person in the global society.
